Maybe it’s being defeatist, maybe it’s being realistic. But is everyone else expecting the worst tomorrow night from Alabama?
I don’t mean that as a commentary on the state, but rather an observation on the country as a whole.
Our lack, as a citizenry, to be able to discern policy and actions from the tribal dynamics of a political party. Our lack, as a citizenry, to recognize manipulation by those more powerful. Our lack, as a citizenry, to simply believe women.
It’s another “Feel Good Friday”! Whew..we made it through another week.
What has you smiling today?
1. Conference calls scheduled for an hour which last only 25 minutes;
2. Holiday lights twinkling at night;
3. Egg McMuffins which taste like heaven in your mouth;
4. Patti LaBelle’s voice no matter the lyrics she’s singing (see earlier post);
5. The movie Coco — enjoyed by three generations with bottomless popcorn; and as the grand finale…

We are one step away from having an email saying: “Hi, Don Jr. this is Vladimir. I have some emails, and Wikileaks can give them to you. In exchange for this I only want all Russian sanctions dropped and to be able to put nuclear power plants in the Middle East. Nothing big. Then we’ll be even. What do you think? Reply back with one answer: YES or NO”
And then, thinking there is no repercussions or danger in working with a hostile country, circles YES as a wry smile washes across his face. He thinks he’s outsmarted Putin because he read Spy vs. Spy cartoons in Mad Magazine.
Except any signal of potential agreement with Russia’s offer of assistance constitutes something to be leveraged as blackmail in the future. And just maybe the Trumps didn’t figure that out.
You know what is really weird about this Trump Russia scandal? The way some parts of the scandal are right out in the open. I’m not sure if that is due to being shameless or clueless or diabolically brilliant. But things which appear truly damning are sometimes announced right in the open.
1st Example: “Russia, if you’re listening…” (Trump directs Russia to hack Hillary’s emails)
2nd Example: when Don Jr. produced the entire email chain about the Trump Tower meeting in June 2016 (where they allegedly discussed adoptions) but really the email showed it was pitched as a meeting to see/hear “dirt” on Hillary Clinton. Don Jr. replied “if it’s what you say it is I love it!”
So consider how even the Russians are surprised by the openness.
From the CNN story today (from Goldstone’s emails):
Yes, that is a good question – why was he admitting “collusion”? Perhaps the genius is those scandals which are out in the open (and not discovered by furtive reporting) are less glamorous and we’ve becoming desensitized.
And another question – when will this national nightmare be over?
